Batman Director Matt Reeves Discusses His Love For The Character

In a recent interview with Los Angeles Daily News, Matt Reeves discussed War For The Planet Of The Apes and took some time to talk about his next job, which will be directing Ben Affleck in the first solo Batman movie. Reeves is still hard at work on the next Planet of the Apes movie so there hasn’t been much progress on the solo Batman film, however, the director is pretty vocal about his passion for the character.

“It’s a strange thing to be involved in the two franchises which were the two that I was connected to most as a child. I just was obsessed with Batman when I was a kid. What I find so interesting about him as a character is that, as far a superhero goes, he’s not superhuman, he is a person. And he is a tortured soul who is grappling with his past and trying to find a way to be in a world that has a lot that’s wrong with it and trying to find a way to reconcile all of that. That is a really powerful character, in the same way that Caesar is such a powerful character.”

The solo Batman movie still doesn’t have an official rewrite and the script is reportedly undergoing a complete rewrite now that Reeves is attached. Obviously, Batman is a major character for Warner Bros. so it shouldn’t be too long before we start seeing developments. Ben Affleck will next appear as the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder’s Justice League on November 17.

Between daydreams of being The Flash, Kieran manages to find the time to read comics, watch movies and keep up with the latest TV Series. The ultimate Superman fanboy his specific interests include the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe, and Marvel & DC Comics. Kieran's life goal is to test real-life Iron Man armor. He'd be pretty bummed if he never got to travel the galaxy.
