There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding Ben Affleck writing, directing and starring in his own Batman movie, with reports now claiming that Zack Snyder’s Justice League sequel has been delayed to make room for The Batman. It would make sense for Warner Bros. to push for a solo Batman movie, the character is the most financially stable property they have, but why rush? At least that’s Affleck’s position on the subject.
In a recent interview Affleck discussed the possibility of him directing The Batman, but as he has previously stated, he won’t begin production until the script is perfect. There are so many projects rushed into filming, but Affleck has a valid reason to take his time.
We still have to get a screenplay and get it together, I’m a real believer in not reverse-engineering projects to meet a window or a date, but rather when you get the right idea, when you get the right story, you get the right thing, then you make the movie. So that’s what we’re doing, and I’m hoping to get that done.
There’s nothing I’d love more than to do, to direct a standalone, iconic, great Batman movie, but it’s been done … Chris Nolan did three really good movies, and I’m really mindful of that, so I’m not in any hurry to jam the mediocre movie down the pipe.
While we might have to wait a while for Affleck’s solo Batman movie, we will see him suited up alongside other heroes in next year’s Justice League. Directed by Zack Snyder Justice League see’s iconic DC Comics characters come together for the first time in history.
