The Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer is finally here. After months of waiting we have a new look at Tom Holland in his first solo Spidey movie, and boy does it look great.
The trailer was officially released during last nights episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! before being released online for everyone to see. Rather than simply breaking down the trailer, I’ve come up with my five favourite moments, which wasn’t an easy process of elimination.
5. Peters School Life
The thing that makes Spider-Man better than most heroes, in my opinion is that he’s just a teenager. So far in the MCU we’ve only seen older characters become heroes, Spider-Man: Homecoming seems to be diving deep when it comes to who Peter Parker is, and how he would react different to other Avengers.
Just seeing Peter interact with other students, and crush on girls is enough to make me excited to see a teenage hero in the Marvel Universe.
4. Tony’s Encouragement
Tom Holland is the third actor to play Spidey, but only the first to do it in the MCU. This means that he exists in the same world as Marvel characters like Iron Man, Captain America and the Guardians, but if you forgot don’t worry, this trailer does a great job of reminding us.
Robert Downey Jr. Is heavily featured as Tony Star in this trailer, which is a smart move if Sony/Marvel want to boost the box-office success of this new Spider-Man franchise.
Just like in Civil War the interaction between Tony and Oeter is perfect, in a dysfunctional father, son kinda way.
3. Great Responsibility
If you thought Tobey Maguire stopping a train was cool, just look at our new web-slinger rescuing two halves of a boat. This definitely looks like an iconic moment for Holland’s Spider-Man, and a great way to introduce this character as a hero to New York, I mean jay floor at Lady Liberty in the background.
This also goes to show how powerful this Spider-Man is. I mean Cap might be able to keep a helicopter on the ground, but this is a whole other level.
Marvel doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to memorable villains. Sure, we’ve had one or two over the years but when it comes to superheroes, there’s only a few characters with a better rogues gallery that Spider-Man.
Now I’m not usually one to jump the gun, but I think we might have a great Spider-Man villain here. We haven’t seen much but the fact that this isn’t another “destroy the universe” type villain means we might have a better origin story for the character, one that makes his motivations valid.
1. The Avengers Rob A Bank
Spider-Man is without a doubt one of the funniest characters Marvel has. While everyone else is serious he’s the guy cracking jokes so it’s great to see that his peculiar style of heroism made it into this trailer.
The bank scene involving members of the Avengers was just perfect. Again showing that this Spidey exists in the MCU, this scene introduced exactly who our new Spider-Man is, and I’m gonna say it, Tom Holland is nailing this role so far.
It can be hard to balance the two roles of Spider-Man and Peter Parker. That’s my main issue with the previous actors playing this character but it really seems like Holland is bringing his A-game to both sides.
“A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
Directed by Jon Watts Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, The Avengers). The film will be released on July 7, 2017.
