Hollywood is all about shared universes right now, between the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and DC’s slate of films every studio seems to be jumping on the chance to create a universe of shared franchises, and Universal is no different.
Universal Pictures will be the next Hollywood studio to create a shared universe, but not another superhero one. Instead Universal will be re-creating their popular monster universe, bringing together some of-of the greatest creatures in literature. The series of films will begin with the release of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise, and the first teaser just landed.

“Though safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.”
The first poster for The Mummy was released alongside the short teaser and might offer up a name to this universe. According to posters tagline, Universal’s shared universe will be known as The Gods and Monsters universe. I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty damn cool to me.
Universal’s Monster Universe might begin with The Mummy, but the studio has plans for Dracula, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride Of Frankenstein, and more classic monsters. The full trailer for The Mummy will be released on Sunday, giving us our first real look at the tone of Universal’s Gods and Monsters Universe.
