Although Suicide Squad wasn’t a big hit with critics, it defied expectations when it came to the films impressive box-office haul. It’s more than likely that Warner Bros. will want to repeat that financial success with a sequel and actor Jai Courtney seems more than excited to return as Captain Boomerang.
While promoting his new film, Man Down, Courtney discussed his love for Captain Boomerang and the chances of a sequel being announced over at Warner Bros.
“Listen, they keep their cards very close to their chest. I actually have no idea, I pray the answer is yes. I certainly don’t feel like I’m done with that character. I had a lot of fun playing him, and I don’t feel like anyone is done with that franchise, certainly not yet. So, I hope so, sooner or later. The studio is very busy at the moment, director David Ayer is directing something else at the moment, but I’m sure they have plans, just none that they’ve shared with me.”
Before Suicide Squad was even released in theaters there were rumours of Boomerang possibly appearing in The Flash. We’ve already seen these two characters face each other in the opening moments of Suicide Squad so it would be great to see that relationship develop. A Suicide Squad sequel is still unconfirmed, but it might just be that Warner Bros. wants to wait until Wonder Woman has been released or even Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
There is one Suicide Squad character we know is returning. Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in a solo movie or a female led Birds of Prey film. It’s clear that Warner Bros. is not done with these characters so I wouldn’t count out a sequel or for the likes of Boomerang, Killer Croc, and Deadshot to pop up elsewhere in the DC Extended Universe.
